Rick and Morty renewed for 70 episodes

Rick and Morty Renewed For 70 More E

Rick and Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland took to social media to announce the show has been renewed for 70 more episodes. Season 3 of Rick and Morty took the show to places it had never been before, in terms of zaniness, dark considerations and – most importantly – ratings. But despite the popularity of season 3, Adult Swim did not immediately announce a renewal for season 4.

With season 4 looking to be on indefinite hold, Rick and Morty fans did what they do best: complained on social media. Series creator Dan Harmon felt compelled to jump into the fray and explain the reason behind the delay in gaining a renewal, telling fans he and co-creator Justin Roiland had become embroiled in difficult contract negotiations. But Harmon recently expressed optimism that things were moving in the right direction, spurring hopes of an imminent announcement.

Now, the announcement fans were waiting for has come. And to the delight of fans, it is a multi-season renewal. As reported by Deadline, the show’s creators have inked a long-term deal with Cartoon Network that will bring 70 new episodes. Roiland also posted the news to Twitter. In addition to that stunning reveal, Harmon posted a hilarious (yet disturbing) video on Instagram, taking off from the premise that Rick and Morty is coming back so Roiland can finally move out of Harmon’s shower where he’s presumably been living during negotiations.

More Rick and Morty coming. Looking forward to all the tweets asking where it is!

Given that Rick and Morty at one time seemed on the verge of disappearing forever, confirmation of even one more episode might be enough to send many fans into ecstasy. But 70? We will have to wait and see if Harmon and Roiland can deliver on that very lofty promise. Five more seasons of Rick and Morty certainly makes sense from a business standpoint, given the show’s huge popularity and pop culture reach. Unfortunately, considering the pace at which the show’s creative geniuses work, it might take decades to reach the 70 mark.
