Bad Movies: As above, So below

The time I saw this film was not too long after I had surgery. I thought I was going to see some good quality horror. I was wrong. As above, So below has a 26% rating on rotten tomatoes and audience score is %40. When I saw the preview to this film I thought they finally found something new and creative. I was so tired of the repetitive and remakes.

When I sat in my chair and the movie was rolling I was with ecstatic. It was about 15 to 20 minutes in the film, nothing has happened. I get it the story has to build up. When the crew finally goes into the catacombs, I was pissed. I paid a $15 dollar ticket to watch the trailer.

If you haven’t seen it, Here is a synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes: Archaeologist Scarlett Marlowe (Perdita Weeks) has devoted her whole life to finding one of history’s greatest treasures: Flamel’s Philosopher’s Stone. According to legend, the artifact can grant eternal life and turn any metal into gold. When she learns that the stone is hidden underground in the Catacombs of Paris, she assembles a crew to guide and document her historic mission. As they begin their descent, the team-members have no way of knowing that they are entering their own personal hell.

I like the personal hell but what I wanted was more than what I saw in the trailer. I felt the production just decided to put all the scary parts into the trailer or at least the best scary parts to get people to see the film.

The part that I didn’t like was the fact they build up the story (all the talking in the beginning) to have it fall flat. In the end, three survive the catacombs by leaving through a tunnel that leads them to the streets of Paris. How they shot that last scene intrigued me the most.

Have you seen this film? What are you thoughts?
